An unplugged oasis where music, laughter, and real connections took center stage
In a world obsessed with screens, Heineken flipped the script at EXIT Festival 2025. Together with BrandBox, the brand launched its “Disconnect to Connect” zone—an analog, playful, and interactive space that invited visitors to look up, engage, and truly connect.
Located in the heart of Petrovaradin Fortress, this activation wasn’t just about escaping Wi-Fi—it was about reclaiming human connection through music, creativity, and joy.
The Concept: Disconnect to Truly Connect
Our creative brief was clear:
Create a space where people forget about notifications and rediscover each other.
We responded with a nostalgic throwback to the pre-digital era—where attention wasn’t split between screens, but shared in the moment. From quirky retro games to analog photo booths and a massive chill zone, the activation transcended generations and brought festival-goers into a physical space of presence and play.
Offline Activations That Made Noise
Offline Feed
A retro photobooth where guests could take polaroid-style photos and post them—literally—on a physical Offline Feed wall. No likes, no filters—just real smiles and instant memories.
Real Mail
Festival-goers wrote messages on custom-designed postcards to their loved ones. Our team mailed them for real—via post office, not DM. Proof that the best messages aren’t always instant.
Walkman Challenge
A custom-made 90s-style music game: guess iconic EXIT Festival songs from the past 25 years—by listening to them on cassette tapes. Gen Z and Millennials alike were hooked on the rewind.
Emoji Challenge
Decode popular artists and tracks using only emojis. A surprisingly tough challenge for anyone who thought they were fluent in emoji-speak.
The Chill Zone: Phones Down, Heads Up
The zone’s design was just as immersive:
• Giant upside-down smartphones repurposed as chill-out tables
• A 4-meter-tall retro phone, transformed into seating tribunes with motivational prompts
• Lounge areas that encouraged people to relax, chat, and take a real break from digital life
Every detail invited guests to disconnect from devices and reconnect with people, music, and themselves.
Why It Worked
- Insight-Driven – Addressed screen fatigue in a fun, festival-appropriate way
- Playful Nostalgia – Tapped into retro tech and childhood memories for broad appeal
- Emotional Connection – Encouraged personal expression and social interaction
- Brand Alignment – Perfectly matched Heineken’s tone of celebration, refreshment, and togetherness
- Viral Potential – Ironically, the analog vibe produced the most-shared festival moments
The Outcome: Digital Detox, Festival Style
Heineken’s “Disconnect to Connect” wasn’t about rejecting technology—it was about reminding us what matters more. In a hyperconnected world, we made space for laughter, friendship, and discovery.
Thousands of visitors stepped away from their feeds to create real memories—and real fun.
